Straight answers about Tax Flow Friday, the program, and what coaching does and doesn't cover.

The weekly habit

What is Tax Flow Friday?

It's the weekly habit at the center of the program. Every Friday you spend about 15–20 minutes checking the same short list: deposits and your 25/10/65 split, account balances, your quarterly estimate, owner pay, open invoices, job costs against bids, bids out and won, and one thing to fix next week. See the full checklist.

What does 25/10/65 mean?

Each week's deposits are split three ways: 25% to a tax reserve, 10% to a profit reserve, and 65% to operating. The method uses a 20–25% tax set-aside, and your number gets set with your CPA. Owner pay comes out of the 65%.

Why every week instead of once a year?

Once a year, you can only find out how the year went. Weekly, you can still change it: catch an overrun while the job is open, keep the tax reserve on pace, and pay yourself on a schedule.

The program

How is the program structured?

The paid levels are a 12-month program, billed monthly. The year is built around three workbook phases (Tax Flow, Pay Flow and Deduction Flow for Contractors) and the weekly Tax Flow Friday check.

What do I get each week?

On Tax Flow Friday: a weekly Tax Flow email, analysis and review of your numbers, and a weekly video walkthrough. Tax Flow Friday Live includes everything in Tax Flow Friday, with a weekly 30-minute Zoom with Steve's team instead of the videos.

Is there a free option?

Yes. The Tax Flow for Contractors community on Skool is free. Join free on Skool.

How much does it cost?

You can start free in our Skool community. Paid Tax Flow Friday levels start at $650/month and $1,150/month, for a 12-month program billed monthly, and both include your annual tax return preparation when you complete the 12 months. Pricing depends on the size and complexity of your business, and larger contractors get a custom quote on the call. See pricing.

Why do larger contractors pay more?

A larger or more complex business has more accounts, jobs and moving parts to plan around, so the coaching takes more work. We look at the size and complexity of your business on the call and tell you which tier fits, or give you a custom quote.

What books does the program use?

The program is built on Steve's three books: Tax Flow, Pay Flow and Deduction Flow for Contractors. You can find all three on the Resources page.

Which trades is this for?

Owners of contracting businesses: electricians, builders, landscapers, handymen and other trades.

Taxes and the fine print

Is tax preparation included?

Yes, with a full 12-month term. Both paid levels include your annual tax return preparation by Padgett & Padgett, PLLC when you complete the 12 months. If you cancel before 12 months, tax preparation isn't included. The coaching itself is education and planning. Other CPA services, like bookkeeping, payroll and entity work, are quoted separately.

Can I cancel?

Yes, with 30 days' notice. Paid levels are a 12-month program, so if you cancel before completing the 12 months, annual tax return preparation isn't included.

Will this lower my taxes?

We don't promise savings or specific results. The program helps you plan your taxes before they're due, set money aside as you earn it, and keep the records that support your deductions. What that means for you depends on your business.

I'm in Washington. Do I still need a tax reserve?

Washington doesn't currently tax most people's wages or business income. Federal taxes still apply, so the tax reserve and quarterly estimates still matter. Quarterly estimates are part of the job.

Are the examples real clients?

No. Client stories in the books are composites, and examples on this site are labeled as examples. We don't publish client results.
